Although senior Akeel Lynch was entrenched at the starting running back position coming into 2015, Barkley has proven himself to not only be the best tailback in Happy Valley, but arguably the most exciting running back in the Big Ten Conference. A true freshman, Barkley will only get better with more experience and time in the weight room. Even now, he deserves the recognition of the Big Ten's top freshman award and should at least be discussed as a candidate for the Ameche-Dayne Running Back of the Year award. Don't believe me? Let's look at the numbers.
Stats aren't the only argument that Barkley deserves some post-season awards; take a look at this highlight clip from the Ohio State game. Keep in mind, OSU has one of the top D-lines in the country and Saquon victimized them for 194 yards on a 7.5 yard/carry average.
